چکیده

Wary consumers overlook gains but not losses in remote sets of dates or states. As preferences are upper but not lower Mackey semi-continuous, Bewley’s (1972) [4] result on existence of equilibrium whose prices are not necessarily countably additive holds. Wariness is related to lack of myopia and to ambiguity aversion (and, therefore, to Bewley’s (1986) [6] work on Knightian uncertainty). Wary infinite lived agents have weaker transversality conditions allowing them to be creditors at infinity and for bubbles to occur in positive net supply assets completing the markets. There are efficient allocations that can only be implemented with asset bubbles. © 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. JEL classification: D52; D53; G12

General Equilibrium, Wariness and Bubbles

We say that a consumer is wary if she overlooks gains but not losses in remote sets of dates or states. We formulate this by requiring preferences to be upper but not lower Mackey semi-continuous and Bewley’s result on existence of Arrow-Debreu equilibrium whose prices are not necessarily countably additive holds. We relate wariness to some concepts studied in decision theory like lack of myopi...

Sentiment Shock and Stock Price Bubbles in a Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Model Framework: The Case of Iran

In this study, a model of Bayesian Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) from Real Business Cycles (RBC) approach with the aim of identifying the factors shaping price bubbles of Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) was specified. The above-mentioned model was conducted in two scenarios. In the first scenario, the baseline model with sentiment shock was examined. In this model, stock price bubbl...

Estimating the Efficient Shocks' Share in Iran's Economic Growth Fluctuations (Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Approach)

In economic, the degree of intervention of policymakers in creation of economic stability and the response to economic fluctuations is one of the most important problems. The higher the share of efficient shocks in economic fluctuation, the lower the degree of policy response. This study evaluates the contribution of efficient shocks in creating of economic fluctuations and also estimates poten...

On the performance of West's bubble test: A simulation approach

In this research we examine the ability of West’s bubble test [1] in detecting speculative bubbles using Brock’s (1982) [2] intertemporal general equilibrium model of asset pricing as the basis for a simulation study. In this setting, (1) the economy, by construction is efficient and produces the maximally possible amount of welfare for society, and (2) asset prices reflect the utility-maximizi...

Rational asset pricing bubbles and portfolio constraints

This article shows that portfolio constraints can give rise to rational asset pricing bubbles in equilibrium even if there are unconstrained agents in the economy who can benefit from the induced limited arbitrage opportunities. Furthermore, it is shown that bubbles can lead to both multiplicity and real indeterminacy of equilibria. The general results are illustrated by two explicitly solved e...
